Wood chip moisture from a 12.5 litre sample

The humimeter BMC measures the water content of wood chips and sawdust from a large sample: the chamber holds 12.5 litres, so the result describes the batch rather than a handful. The whole measurement takes less than a minute - you fill the material level with the top edge of the chamber and read the moisture together with the temperature. The manufacturer states that against the oven method this saves 80 % of the time and 96 % of the energy cost.

How a measurement is taken

  1. Select the curve matching the material.
  2. Fill the measuring chamber level with the top edge - the bucket from the set is there to measure out the portion.
  3. Read the water content and the temperature from the backlit display.
  4. Store the result with the measuring point description or the supplier details if the measurement is going into the intake documentation.

Checking the readings

The test medium art. no. 12318, listed in the price list for the BMA-2 and the BMC, is used to check the readings. Independently of that it is worth comparing the result periodically with the oven method, the reference method.

Extended accessories

BMC or BMA-2

Both instruments measure wood chips from a large sample, but they are built for different work. The BMC is portable: it runs on batteries or a rechargeable pack, so it stands wherever the deliveries arrive. The humimeter BMA-2 is stationary, mains powered, and in return it measures over a wider range up to 70 %, with a resolution of 0.1 % and an accuracy of ±1.0 %. At an intake point with its own power supply the BMA-2 makes more sense; in the field and across several locations, the BMC.
