The humimeter WLW is a handheld wood moisture meter with a ram electrode. The electrode is driven into the wood across the grain and the result is there a moment later - with no sample taken and no waiting for a drying oven. The instrument was built for quality control in the production of sawmills, joineries and timber construction firms, and it also suits round and split wood.

The range reaches 150 % wood moisture, so the meter covers freshly felled timber as well as wood dried to commercial condition. The reading can be switched between wood moisture and water content, depending on which figure a given trade settles in.

How a measurement is taken

1. Choose a spot free of bark, knots, resin pockets and cracks.
2. Switch the meter on and connect the electrode.
3. Select the wood group or species from the menu, that is the right characteristic curve.
4. Drive the ram electrode or the hand electrode in across the grain.
5. Read the result from the display and store it if needed.
6. Take several measurements at different places - the meter works out the average of the stored readings itself.

The whole measurement takes a dozen seconds or so, and the result stays in the logger together with the description of the spot.

Electrodes required for the meter to work

One of three electrodes is needed. They differ in how the tips are driven into the wood and how deep they reach:
