The LF-TD-H Wood is a sensor made for mounting in closed systems - screw conveyors, hoppers, feed chutes. It measures the water content of wood chips, shavings, pellets and other wood materials while they are being transported, without any sampling.
The manufacturer optimised it for wood gasification plants, where the water content of the fuel decides the efficiency of the process and whether the generator runs stably at all.
The sensor delivers two 4-20 mA current signals: the water content on one, the temperature on the other. The supply is 24 VDC, permitted 15 to 29 VDC.
The range of 2 to 20 % water content covers dry and over-dried fuel - the kind a gasifying generator expects. Wet chips straight from the chipper fall outside this range; the devices in the bioenergy section serve those. The material temperature during the measurement has to stay within 0 to +40 °C.
The LF-TD-H shares the electronics housing of 70 x 32 x 120 mm and the way it is connected with the rest of the series, but it measures something else: not the humidity of air but the water content of bulk material. The other variants are set out in the LF-TD series overview.
