The humimeter FL1 is the simplest meter in the FL series: the probe is pushed into the bale, the device is switched on and after a few seconds the water content and the material temperature can be read. No sampling, no weighing and no need to open the bale.

Calibration curves

The curve is matched to the material. Operating manual v2.4 lists two working curves and one reference curve; both working curves are meant for bales with a density of 100 to 130 kg/m³.

How a measurement is taken

  1. Let the device reach the temperature of the material.
  2. Select the curve: hay or straw.
  3. Push the measuring tip straight into the face of the bale, over the whole length of the probe. Do not bend the probe and do not use it as a lever.
  4. Read the water content and the temperature. The Hold function freezes the reading until the button is pressed again.
  5. Repeat the measurement at several points of the bale and compare the results.

The wooden case is not part of the set - it is a separate item, art. no. 12289, available while the manufacturer's stock lasts - no new wooden cases will be made.

Checking the readings

The manufacturer recommends comparing the readings with the oven-drying method from time to time. For a quick check in the field there is test block art. no. 12308, listed in the price list with the FL1, FL2, FLH, BLL, BL2, WLW, BLW, SLW, RM1 and BLO.

Extended accessories

FL1 or FL2

The FL1 is the simpler and cheaper one: it has a Hold function and a logger for 10 000 measurements, it measures with an accuracy of ±1.0 %, and it carries curves for bales only.

The humimeter FL2 measures with an accuracy of ±0.8 %, it has automatic averaging of readings, and the set includes a pressure plate for loose material and a transport box. It also handles curves for unusual materials such as cellulose, tobacco or alfalfa. If only bales are being measured and a reading on the spot is enough, the FL1 does the same job for less.
