A moisture meter for materials that have no meter of their own

Not every material has a moisture meter made for it. Plastics, fillers, blends, semi-finished goods, bulk materials in pressed form - for these the manufacturer has prepared no factory calibration curve, because every works has its own raw material composition. The humimeter M05 and M30 are built for exactly such cases: the electronics and the probe are ready, and the measuring characteristic is developed from a sample the customer sends in.

The measurement is non-destructive and needs no sample to be taken or prepared - the meter is held flat against the material and after a few seconds shows the water content. The device fits in the hand, weighs 265 g and runs on four AA batteries.

M05 or M30: the measuring depth separates them

Both meters have identical electronics, housing, memory and measuring range. There is one difference, and it concerns how deep into the material the measuring field of the flat probe reaches:

• humimeter M05, art. no. 12503 - measuring depth 5 mm. For thin materials and for the surface layer, when what matters is what happens just under the surface.
• humimeter M30, art. no. 13586 - measuring depth 30 mm. For thicker materials and for products in which the moisture is distributed unevenly through the cross-section.

Material thinner than the measuring depth gives a reading that is too low, because air or the substrate enters the measuring field as well. It is therefore worth settling the choice of variant together with a sample before the order is placed - we confirm this before dispatch.

The calibration curve is developed in the laboratory

The device is supplied without a curve for the customer’s material - that is not a gap but a design assumption. The path is this:

1. Preliminary examination, art. no. 10615 - the laboratory checks on the sample sent in whether the moisture of this material can be measured by this method at all. It is worth starting here, before a purchase is decided.
2. Development of the calibration curve, art. no. 11217 - the laboratory works out the characteristic for the specific material and loads it into the meter.
3. Entry of an existing curve, art. no. 12297 - if the characteristic already exists, it is simply entered into the next device.

The meter also has a calibration function of its own, so further varieties of the material can be entered by the user.

Operation and the way a measurement is taken

The meter is held flat against the material and the result is read off. There is no sampling, no weighing and no drying - the measurement takes a few seconds and does not damage the product, so a whole batch can be checked rather than a single piece. The quick averaging function calculates the mean of a series of readings, which matters with materials whose moisture is unevenly distributed. The Hold function freezes the result on the screen, and the manual log holds 10 000 readings with a description of the measuring point, which can be transferred to a computer over the USB interface.
