The humimeter FS4.2 measures the water content of a weighed sample of bulk material. The sample does not have to be ground or prepared in any other way - a portion is weighed on the scale supplied with the device and poured into the measuring chamber. The result appears on the display within a few seconds, with automatic compensation of the material temperature.
The meter carries factory curves for road salt, table salt and sea salt as well as for sewage sludge granulate. For any other bulk material the curve is developed by the manufacturer’s laboratory. The FS4.2 replaced the discontinued FS4.1 model and took over its sewage sludge measurement.
The accuracy of the FS4.2 rests on weighing out a portion of the correct mass, which is why the digital scale and the measuring cup are part of the set. The name of the curve states the required sample weight, and the permitted deviation is ±1.0 g.

Keeping to the sample weight is the condition for a repeatable result: the meter converts the value measured in the chamber for a quantity of material known in advance, so a larger or smaller portion shifts the reading. This is how the bulk density is compensated - the FS4.2 does not determine or display a hectolitre weight.
For granulates, powders and other bulk materials outside the list of factory curves, the manufacturer carries out a laboratory analysis of a sample and loads the finished curve into the meter (art. no. 11217). From that point the device measures that material exactly as it measures the salts, that is after a portion of the specified weight has been weighed out.
The operating manual recommends checking the calibration every four weeks. The check set art. no. 11758 serves that purpose, consisting of a check device and a weight - the same one needed for the supervision of measuring equipment according to the ISO standard.
The meter stores 10 000 readings in its manual logger and produces a measuring point report, so the place of measurement, the supplier and the batch number can be added to the result. The USB interface module with the LogMemorizer basic software is included in the scope of delivery, so transferring the data to a computer costs nothing extra. Instead of the cable an internal Bluetooth 5.0 module can be chosen (art. no. 14944), and the results can be printed on the spot with a portable thermal printer (art. no. 15444).

Neither the scale nor the measuring cup has to be bought separately - without them the measurement would not be repeatable, so the manufacturer supplies them with the set. The USB interface module is included as well and is not an extra charge.
Both meters cover bulk materials and powders, but they work differently. The FS4.2 measures a weighed sample in the measuring chamber, so the material has to be taken and brought to the device. The humimeter SG1 measures directly in the heap, the big bag or the chute with an insertion probe, without taking a sample, and needs probe art. no. 14924 to work. Where the material can be scooped into the measuring cup, the FS4.2 is the right choice; where the measurement is to happen at the storage point, the SG1 is.
