humimeter SG1 bulk material and powder moisture meter

Moisture of powders and bulk materials measured straight in the big bag, sack or heap

The humimeter SG1 is a handheld meter for the water content of powders, granulates and bulk materials. The measurement is taken on the spot, by pushing the probe straight into the material - in a big bag, a bucket, a sack, a chute or a heap - with no sample taken, weighed or dried. The result appears on the display within a few seconds.

The device measures the dielectric properties of the material and converts the result through a characteristic curve matched to whatever is being measured.

Materials the SG1 is made for

The manufacturer lists among others:

The open insertion probe does not jam the material

The insertion probe (art. no. 14924) has an open construction: bulk material falls freely through it instead of jamming inside and blocking the measuring zone. The bulk density between the measuring plates therefore stays constant, and the device detects both very low and very high water content. The probe measures 255 x 150 x 70 mm, weighs 1615 g and connects to the meter by a detachable cable 1.5 m long.

The same open construction makes cleaning easier - the probe is blown out with compressed air, without being dismantled.

Operation and the way a measurement is taken

The probe is pushed into the material over its whole length, up to the measuring head. The arrow keys select the characteristic curve for the material being measured, and the result appears on the display at once.

The Hold function freezes the reading, and the manual log holds 10 000 measurements together with a description of the measuring point, so results from the hall can be sorted later and assigned to a batch.

Eight curves to assign to your own materials

The SG1 has eight free characteristic curves for bulk materials. They are assigned to a specific product by comparing the readings with the result of the oven-drying method according to the EN/ISO standard. If the material is unusual, or a ready and accurate curve is wanted, the manufacturer develops one in the laboratory from a supplied sample (art. no. 11217).

The 0-100 reference curve for comparative checking

Besides the material curves the device carries a reference curve running from 0 to 100 without a unit. It serves comparative checking: it makes it possible to follow whether successive batches of the same raw material behave in the same way, even before a material curve exists for them.

Logging and transferring the data

The scope of delivery includes the USB interface module with the LogMemorizer basic software (art. no. 12278) and a cable to the computer - it does not have to be bought separately. The software reads the measurement log, allows it to be archived and exported for further processing.

If the data is to reach the computer wirelessly, the meter can be ordered with an internal Bluetooth 5.0 module (art. no. 14944). The LogMemorizer PRO licence (art. no. 11909) adds a cloud connection and requires the USB or Bluetooth interface.

Advantages

The construction of the probe is the key point. Bulk material pours freely between its plates, so the bulk density in the measuring zone is always the same, whether the measurement happens in a big bag or in a heap. That is what decides the repeatability of the result.

  • measurement straight in the material, without taking or preparing a sample
  • result in a few seconds, on the spot
  • open probe shape - the material does not jam and does not block it
  • eight free curves to assign to your own materials
  • 0-100 reference curve for comparative checking
  • cleaning with compressed air
  • log of 10 000 measurements with a description of the measuring point

Scope of delivery

The probe to choose

The meter does not work without a probe - the probe is ordered together with the base device.

Extended accessories

SG1 or FS4.2

Both cover bulk materials and powders, but they work differently. The SG1 measures directly in the heap, the big bag or the chute with an insertion probe, without a sample being taken. The humimeter FS4.2 measures a weighed sample in a measuring chamber, so the material has to be brought to the device. Where the measurement is to happen at the storage point, the SG1 is right; where the material can be scooped into a measuring cup, the FS4.2 is.
